Cairo Knife Fight & Session

Nick Gaffaney

Beginning his career as a jazz drummer, Nick quickly made a name for himself in the experimental music scenes of Australasia and North America, even holding an artist in residence position at the Darpana Academy of Performing Arts in Ahmedabad, India, before turning his hand to session work in his native New Zealand in the early 2000’s.

Working on countless albums and touring projects in New Zealand, he quickly became one of the most in-demand session musicians in the country, working with the biggest names in the singer songwriter and pop scene.

Following a stint in Berlin in 2005, Nick decided to follow an ambition that came to him in a dream (yes, really): to perform in a two man band, live looping his drums through a his own mics and a summing mixer, playing keyboard bass with his left hand, drums with his right, and leading singing. Thus, Cairo Knife Fight was born.

Since then the band has released 4 EP’s, 2 full albums; toured in support of Them Crooked Vultures, Queens of The Stone Age, Foo Fighters, and Karnivool; and relocated from New Zealand to Los Angeles. They currently have two new full length albums recorded at Dave Grohl’s Studio 606 ready for release and divide their time between Los Angeles and Las Vegas where the bands studio is located.
