As a San Francisco Bay Area native now based in Seattle, Sutton Marley is an up-and-coming drummer/bandleader who has a passion for honoring the musical tradition and language of bebop. After many years performing as a sideman with many of the top jazz musicians in the Bay Area, Sutton is now celebrating the release of his first album under his own name, Intention, which is available on all major streaming platforms. Inspired by the sound of Grant Green’s iconic album Street of Dreams, Intention is a feel-good presentation of classic standards featuring the wonderful musicianship of Smith Dobson, Adam Shulman, and Jack Tone Riordan.
In addition to his work as a performer, Sutton also cares deeply about education and helping encourage younger generations of musicians. He has taught courses on jazz drum set fundamentals at the San Jose Jazz Summer Camp, as well as private students of all ages.
