Canopus have managed to produce a drum sound that suits any musical situation, with a combination of forced-hardening lacquer and shell construction without reinforcement.This sound has attracted leading drummers such as Stevie Wonder and Kenny Washington as well as up and coming drummers such as Mark Whitfield Jr., Justin Tyson and Joe Dyson to name a few. They have checked all of the Canopus series, and have chosen the Yaiba โ ก as their preferred drum set.Series like the RFM have a thin, resonant shell with reinforcing rings โ this gives a rich mid-low end which gives players a very pleasant feel. With Yaiba II, we have managed the combination of the thickness of the shell and the hardness of the forced-hardening lacquer to create a new sound โ which provides more projection and a โsolidโ sound.

While the NV-M1 series remains as my main jazz kit, I use the Yaiba Bop Kit to play other contemporary styles of music. I`m regularly having to go from big band jazz, to neo-soul R&B, to Brazilian jazz, to Top 40, and the Yaiba Bop Kit`s versatility makes it easy to cover all genres of music. I`ve also received many compliments from sound engineers both live and in-studio settings, on how great these drums sound.

It`s the only thing that I`ve been playing for the past 7 years!
I first found out about Canopus after seeing them at all of the clubs around NYC. Nothing came closer to the great bebop sounds of the 60s than those drums.
When I`m playing them, they speak quickly and I can really articulate my ideas with ease. A clear and distinct note comes out of each drum and they practically sing. I get compliments about my drums all the time!
They`re aesthetically sleek, timeless, and modern all at the same time. To me, they`re the Porsche of drums.
Even after all of these years, they still tune up easily and the hardware works perfectly.
