Matorral

Italo Arauz

Ítalo Arauz is a Chilean musician, drummer and session player. His drumming training has been mainly self-taught. He studied classical percussion at the Conservatory of Music of the Catholic University of Valparaíso (1998-2000). He deepened his technique in one-on-one classes with the renowned maestro Ricardo Ruiz. His main references come from the world of jazz, giving him a unique style, which has been described in the national press as “his virtuosity, elegance, versatility and creativity, flow in such a way that it creates the illusion of being in front of an instrument that is easy to play even in the face of highly complex rhythms. He has a superlative control of intensity, with the wisdom of the great”.

He joined the band Matorral in 2012, a period that coincides with the exploration of new sound directions for the band, resulting in the acclaimed albums Remoto Control (2013) and Gabriel (2015). The latter was awarded the Pulsar Prize for best rock album and best production in 2016. The band is currently working on their next album, of which they have already released the singles “Cada cual” and “Sobre la profundidad”. This long-awaited comeback has had an excellent reception from critics and audiences alike.

In his intense career he has participated in numerous projects, with recordings and national and international tours, such as Cadenasso, Javier Barría, Andres Valdebenito, Mauricio Barraza, Santa María, Daniela Medel, Esteban Sumar, Natisú, Franz Mesco, Felipe Schuster, Leo Quinteros, Aguaturbia, Nito Mestre, among other musicians of the national indie pop scene.
