Tim Wyskida

Tim Wyskida is a New York City/Berlin-based drummer and percussionist, most recognized for his work in Khanate and Blind Idiot God. He’s recorded and/or performed with Insect Ark, Swans, Caspar Brötzmann, Jodis, Stephen O’Malley, James Plotkin, Mick Barr, Aidan Baker, Azonic, Downriver, Khlyst, Ginnungagap and others. Yet to be released projects include a group with world-renowned taiko drummer Kaoru Watanabe & Grammy Award winning producer Marc Urselli.

All of Tim’s groups focus on innovation, primarily in heavy music. Minimalism, maximalism, wide-ranging tempos & dynamics, rubato and improvisation are consistent aspects of his style. Versed in jazz technique and a drummer/percussionist since the age of 12, Tim has refined every aspect of his percussive technique while playing with a wide variety of groups including orchestras, jazz ensembles and rock/metal groups. In the 1990’s he turned his attention to composing and recording, after learning how to play guitar & bass and immersing himself in midi programming. In 2000 he became a founding member of Khanate, a group who works primarily with unusually slow tempos, in the moment timing and extreme dynamics. In 2001 he joined Blind Idiot God, a well-established instrumental, avant-garde metal and dub group. Dense playing, tempo changes and feel-obsession are central to the group’s sound. Beyond playing a standard drum kit, he’s performed live and in the studio on timpani, concert bass drum, gong, thundersheet and handheld percussion.

Tim has toured internationally and appeared on a wide variety of releases on Sacred Bones Records, Southern Lord Records, Hydra Head Records, Daymare Recordings, Young God Records, Mute Records, Drag City, Debemur Morti, Indivisible Music, Load Records, I-VOIDHANGER RECORDS, aRCHIVE, Trust No One Recordings, Misanthropic Agenda, Gizeh Records, Tokyo Fist Records, Poptown Records and others. He’s performed live sets on WFMU and WNYU and is a long-time endorsee of Canopus Drums.

Message to CANOPUS

I worked for a company in New York City which has a large variety of kits made by various drum manufacturers. Over the years I tried different kits at live shows and recordings, searching for my ideal sound. Every kit I tried had some shortcoming.
I first used a Canopus kit at a show in a record shop in Philadelphia and was blown away by the sound. It was a 4 piece R.F.M. series kit with great sustain and clarity through the frequency spectrum. The folks at Canopus seem to be obsessed with every detail of their kits and put sound considerations before everything else. The outcome for me, is perfect.
