Paolo Orlandi

Paolo Orlandi is a leading Italian jazz drummer on the European scene, recognized for his numerous collaborations and performances at festivals, clubs, and radio broadcasts around the world.
His list of collaborators includes renowned artists such as Franco Cerri, Dado Moroni, Robert Bonisolo, Alessio Menconi, Ben Kraef, Andrea Dulbecco, Marco Panascia, Thierry Lang, Anthony Wonsey, Peter Weninger, Moncef Genoud, Ian Shaw, Damien Erskine, Giovanni Ceccarelli, Sharon Clark, Heiri Känzig, and many others.
Paolo has had the privilege of performing several times with legendary bassist and mentor John Patitucci, who says of him: “Paolo has always been a gifted, swinging, sensitive drummer and all around musician. He also possesses a brilliant mind and he is a great teacher.”
He is co-leader of two projects: the trio North East with Gregor Ftičar, and the Italian quartet Voices (featuring A. Dulbecco, G. Ceccarelli, and S. Maiore).
After earning a Master’s degree in Jazz Performance from the City College of New York and teaching drums and jazz history in various higher education programs across the United States, the Middle East, and Switzerland, Paolo now divides his teaching activities between the Civici Corsi di Jazz in Milan and his online teaching studio located in the French countryside near Geneva.

Everybody seems to like vintage drums, yet there is only a fixed number of kits around and availability will decrease. I like to think that there are still people that make incredibly sounding drums and that’s what Canopus is doing. The resonating qualities, purity of the sound, and easiness of tuning of these instrument are very difficult to match. Plus, “is that a 15” bass drum?" I never get tired of being asked...
