Born in the vibrant city of Jakarta, Indonesia, Jicho Jonisson is a multi-talented musician whose rhythmic prowess and dedication to his craft have propelled him to remarkable heights. From humble beginnings as a young music enthusiast, Jicho’s journey has taken him on a path of musical exploration, collaborating with renowned artists, performing on prestigious stages.
Jicho’s love affair with music began at the tender age of 7 when he embarked on his first music lessons, learning both drums and piano. His thirst for knowledge and passion for music led him to study under several skilled drum and piano teachers, honing his skills and cultivating his natural talent. Graduating from high school in 2011, Jicho’s unwavering dedication to his musical journey led him to enroll as a student at the esteemed Daya Indonesia Performing Arts Academy, where he pursued a music degree program.
During his college years, Jicho’s dedication to his craft was rewarded with an opportunity to be mentored by esteemed jazz pianist Prof. Tjut Nyak Deviana Daudsjah, Ali Akbar, Sri Hanuraga, Adra Karim, Nial Djuliarso, as well as drummer Sandy Satya and Yosef Andrianta. These influential mentors played a pivotal role in shaping Jicho’s artistic identity and expanding his musical horizons.
Jicho’s career kicked off as a session musician, performing in function gigs bands with his college friends. At the age of 18, he began gracing the stages of jazz clubs and rock bars, captivating audiences with his dynamic drumming. From renowned venues such as Prohibition Chophouse & Speakeasy Bar and Motion Blue at Fairmont Hotel to international jazz spots like Jazz House Alfie Roppongi in Japan, Jicho’s performances left an indelible impression on listeners.
Throughout his career, Jicho has had the privilege of collaborating with exceptional Indonesian and international musicians, including luminaries such as Nial Djuliarso, Prof. Tjut Nyak Deviana, Kaoru Inoue, JM Belkadi, Marcin J and many more. His musical journey has taken him to prestigious jazz festivals and concerts, including the International Java Jazz Festival, Jazz in July, Esplanade, Torang pe Jazz Festival, We The Fest, Locafore Jazz Festivals, Soundrenaline, and Localfest.
Jicho’s entrepreneurial spirit led him to co-manage Ibarus Music Entertainment, an entertainment agency he established with his friend Indra Bayu. This venture allowed Jicho to expand his musical reach and create opportunities for other talented artists. Furthermore, his talent as a versatile session musician enabled him to perform around the world, from Tokyo and Singapore to Dubai, Kuala Lumpur, and the United States, leaving his rhythmic mark on international stages.
In addition to his performing career, Jicho shared his passion for music through teaching. Since 2013, he has been dedicated to imparting his knowledge and expertise as a drum teacher. Furthermore, Jicho’s instrumental piano music has been released on Spotify, captivating listeners with his melodic compositions.
