Why did I choose the NV60-M1:
First of all having those drums now, I am really loving them, I can’t recall being so excited
about playing a series of drums for a very long long time. They just sound the way, I am
imaging for my playing, drums suppose to sound, this is a strong feeling.
Living now for close to 20 years in NYC, my musical approach, style, taste etc. changed.
This needed also to reflect in the drums I play.
Through hanging and playing in some of the fine jazz clubs in NYC, I got introduced to the
Canopus Neo Vintage Series. They felt and sounded always so good. I noticed by checking out
other amazing drummers, they sounded always to the players taste and technique different,
still always strong in projection, very defined in all volumes and tuning. In higher volume, they
never sounded overplayed.
Yes the Neo Vintage series is more designed for music styles where higher pitched drums and
a vintage sound and feel is preferred. For me the biggest strong point on those drums are:
In a higher tuning you won’t get the bad overtones, which drive me crazy a lot in drums of
other companies, next to it all the drums are perfectly balanced to each other, a problem in a
lot of old vintage drums. It is really hard finding old drumsets, where all drums are well
balanced within the whole kit.
I use for bassdrum dampening the old school towel between pedal and batterhead, which
works for me very well on a higher pitched bassrum.
Owning and be able to play my NV60-M1 I assure, the people of Canopus are really passioned
about drum building, which you can see at their craftsmanship, and eye for details and beauty
of their drums and they put lots of effort, knowledge and science in their high quality shells.
I hope you have a chance to check out Canopus drums, especially the snare drums!
