Description
The number of snare wires is a fundamental factor in defining a snare’s resonance and character – allowing a single drum to display completely different sound characteristics. Generally, more wires bring sensitivity and a bright tone, while fewer wires deliver a drier, more direct tone with stronger shell presence.
The strength of the CPSL-14DR12 lies in the wonderfully controlled sound it provides and the way it emphasizes shell resonance. Simply swapping wires will open the door to new playing approaches and sonic possibilities.
Even on vintage drums with deep snare beds from the 1940s, or the nearly flat beds of the 1960s, these wires reduce unwanted snare buzz and give maximum functionality.

I want to give you some feedback on my 5 years of experience performing with Canopus Vintage Snares.
I play the Canopus Neo-Vintage Jazz drum set, with a 6.5” x 14” snare drum equipped with Vintage Snares.
As a jazz drummer, I frequently play with brushes as well as sticks. I can easily adjust the snare tension to achieve the snare sound I’m looking for and simultaneously get a nice full brush sound from the snares.
Canopus Vintage Snares provide the full, rich, warm sound I want. They are never sharp or too bright, yet they provide a sound the band and audience can easily hear in performance even with brushes.

The drummer who controls their snare sound will have a much better chance of controlling their entire drum kit. The snare drum is most vocal part of the kit, speakers the quickest and loudest.
Canopus Vintage Snare Wires opened my ears to this revelation. For the first time I heard warmth and depth in the tone of my snare sound. Warmth from the brass; depth from the coil of the snares. I was able to get a deeper tone from the snare as well as a more pleasing, relaxing warmth.
They work well on wood or metal shell drums. I use them on every drum I own.

For studio and live I’m constantly requiring the widest dynamic range possible out of my snare drums. The Canopus vintage snare wires gives me that sensitivity for all the subtlety and for when I want to pull the volume out of the drum the punctuation is articulately present....highly recommended!
