Where tension and release create the core
We have long pursued the concept of creating a piccolo-sized snare that can truly function as a main snare. With this model, we have further refined that concept by incorporating considerations for modern miking environments – specifically, improved sound projection and the elimination of unwanted sustain.
This custom model adopts a configuration inspired by select vintage drums, featuring 12 tension rods on the batter side and 6 on the snare side, all within a compact and highly manageable piccolo format.
The higher tension structure on the top head produces a tight, focused attack, while the bottom head is designed to retain openness even at higher pitches, allowing for a well-defined and present midrange.
Additionally, the use of round-edge hoops helps control excessive sustain while enhancing a solid, cohesive tonal character. As a result, this snare maintains the quick response characteristic of a piccolo, while delivering the depth and core tone more commonly associated with deeper shells.
Balancing tension and release, it offers a strong presence as a main snare, combined with the portability of its compact size.
